That’s how an F1 team goes into the road car business, with the ability to adapt at lightning pace to market needs and so the 570S allows McLaren to take on the volume sports car guys at their own game.

McLaren 570S: Bringing Formula One tech down to the more affordable sports cars. 


McLaren’s initial mandate when it re-entered the world of production cars was to take on arch nemesis, Ferrari and beat them on the street as well. It’s debatable how well that worked but now Porsche and Audi are in their sights with the volume chasing 570S.


For years nothing could touch the Porsche 911 as the premium sports car, a little below Ferrari but above BMW and AMG and in bigger volumes than Aston Martin or Lotus.


Audi arrived with the R8 and suddenly the option was there, so not wanting to stand back on its laurels after the release of the 12C, P1 and 650S, the small team from Woking jumped into the volume end of town with the McLaren 570S.


All these manufacturers have great histories in motor racing, most notably endurance racing such as the Le Mans 24-hour, but Formula One is a cut-throat game that requires super quick reflexes and the ability to adapt to change in record time. [To be continued...]
