The Beast from the East
In global terms, the Middle East is a relatively small market and usually gets the leftovers from the US, Europe and Asia. So when Nissan decided to make a Patrol just for the Gulf region by the same guys who gave us the iconic GT-R sports coupe, it turned heads everywhere as everyone wants a piece of the Nismo Patrol.
The Nissan Patrol is an icon in off-roading culture, not just in the Middle East, but around the world. Venture into the outback of Australia or the wilds of Africa and you will find not just one Patrol, but hoards of them
They’re capability is unquestioned, so when Nissan decided to produce a limited number of Nismo modified Patrols, I had a hard time trying to understand the logic.
Normally, limited run, high-performance SUVs are a marketing push to give the off-roader some extra street cred in an attempt to perhaps mask its less than rugged off-road abilities, but that’s not the case here.
In this situation, the Patrol brand is so strong in the Middle East that it’s the other way around with Nissan using the Patrol to boost its high-performance Nismo brand in the region. It’s also why you won’t find this tweaked 428bhp, 5.6-litre V8 sports brute available anywhere else in the world. [To be continued...]
